Today we again partnered with Hope of Glory Ministries to do some Homeless Outreach downtown. I brought my friend Brandon along who has been having increased desire to minister to those in need. It was a powerful time. It was awesome to see Brandon step out of his comfort zone to minster and share with some of the homeless.
These are some photos from some downtown homeless ministry the day after Christmas.
In the 1st and second photo, you will see me, Brandon Williams, and a young man named Matthew. Several weeks ago I ran into Matthew witnessing at the Swap Meet. I actually got video of it I posted here
But long story short...
Weeks ago when I met him, he was so closed off to the Gospel that when I told him at the end of the video that Jesus Christ loved him more than he could imagine, he just walked away in the middle of me telling him.
When I saw him here, downtown, in the photos, the day after Christmas I initially had no idea what to expect. I really couldn't believe that I had run into him downtown. He actually helped us all pack up after the lunch we served the homeless. I went up to him and said "Hey I met you a few weeks ago. Remember me?" He did. He then proceeded to apologize for the way he responded when I shared the Gospel. I asked him if he had thought about anything I told with him. He said that he had and, in fact, had gone over it in his mind.
I was blown away by the change of his demeanor. I began trying to share with him about the sacrifice of Christ, our need for forgiveness, and the love of God towards us in Christ. He was so open to what I was sharing that he said "You know I think you might be onto something." It was powerful to see the change that occurred just from sowing a seed of the Gospel in his life weeks before.
It didn't end there. He didn't have a Bible so I got him a New Testament and shared with him how "that book has been changing lives for the better for 2000 years." He was so eager to read it he started flipping through it and scanning it. I then spent a few minutes reading from John 1 and John 3 with him.
Praise God for divine appointments. No matter how someone initially responds to being challenged with their need to repent of their sins and to embrace the love of Christ, God can begin to water the seed. This young man went from rejecting everything I was sharing with him to accepting a New Testament and beginning to read it. Praise God!!! Hallelujah!!!
