What Is The Gospel?

The Gospel is the good news about what God did for you and me so that we can be forgiven of our sins and have a restored relationship with him.

The Truth is:

1) We are all sinners in need of a savior.

All people are spiritually dead because of their sin. Our sin seperates us from God because He is holy and perfect.

2) Jesus Christ is the Savior.

He was God in the flesh. He alone conquered Sin, Death, and the Grave 2000 years ago when he died for your and my sins. He is the answer to our shame, guilt, and the consequences for our sin.

3) God requires that all men and women repent of their sins.

Our sin has led us to pride, selfishness, and many times, our sinful choices have hurt those we love and to hurt ourselves. We must believe in the sacrifice that Jesus made on the cross and we must make Jesus Christ the Lord

4) Jesus is the WAY, the TRUTH, and the LIFE.

No one comes to God through their own efforts or religion. People cant try to atone for their sins, but what's done is done. We can't erase our sins. We can't bring life out of our choices that have brought death. Only Jesus Christ can do that.

5) When someone surrenders their life to Christ, they are spiritually made new and their sins are forgiven.

Not only will they be spedning eternity in heaven, instead of seperated from God in hell, but in their life, they are able to become who they were made to be. God creates everyone with value and purpose. Sin, satan, and selfishness wreck these things. Jesus Christ restores them.

What Is Sin?

There are different types of sin. However, the Bible clear that it is something that we all have done.

In Romans 3:23 it says that "All have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God."

God is perfect, and that perfection is infinitely good and just. Therefore, anything that deviates from God's goodness is sin. In the Bible God reveals His standard of right and wrong. The clearest example is the Ten Commandments:

  • You shall have no other gods before Me.

  • You shall not make idols.

  • You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain.

  • Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.

  • Honor your father and your mother.

  • You shall not murder.

  • You shall not commit adultery.

  • You shall not steal.

  • You shall not bear false witness against your neighbor.

  • You shall not covet.

When we violate God's standard of morality it has really bad consequences. It actually damages us and very often damages those around us. An example that may help you understand is that sin is like cutting the breaks in a car. Its going to result in you getting really hurt and most definitely hurting other people.

So why do we sin?

We all have what the Bible calls a sinful nature. Until we let surrender to God, every part of our life is affected by it. Our nature is one of rebellion, pride, and selfishness. This is why we make conscious choices to do the wrong thing and also it is why we can unknowlingly make wrong choices.

One of the results of sin is our desire to push God out of our lives and rely solely on ourselves. Because of that, when we hear about heaven and hell, we begin to think of how we can save ourselves. The Bible, and even an honest assessement of our lives, makes it clear that it is impossible to save ourselves. We can't stop sinning without intervention from God in our lives. We fail everytime and we can often become religious and make our own standards to fullfill in order to avoid this reality. That is why religious people and religions don't work. Its us creating the standard, and we make one we can fulfill. God has a perfect standard and the only person to fulfill it was Jesus Christ, because He was God in the flesh. The good news is that God offers us salvation through the work of Jesus Christ. We don't have to earn it. We just have to humble ourselves and lay down our pride and rebellion against God and believe in Him.

What is Grace?

One of the reults of sin is our desire to push God out of our lives and rely solely on ourselves. Because of that, when we hear about heaven and hell, we begin to think of how we can save ourselves. The Bible is clear, and our own efforts ending showing us, that it is impossible to save ourselves. We can't stop sinning without intervention by God in our lives. We fail everytime and we can often become religous and make our own standard in order to avoid this reality. That is why religious people and religions don't work. Its us making the standard. We don't have to earn it. We just have to humble ourselves and lay down our pride and rebellion agains God.

Ephesians 2:1-10

And you were dead in the trespasses and sins 2 in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— 3 among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body[a] and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.[b] 4 But[c] God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, 5 even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved— 6 and raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the coming ages he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. 8 For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, 9 not a result of works, so that no one may boast. 10 For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.

Grace can be summed up really well in this

God's

Riches

At

Christ's

Expense

Jesus offers salvation and freedom to all who come to him in repentance, no matter your past mistakes or current dilema

Who is Jesus?

Jesus Christ has a plan for your life.

He loves you and does not want to use you, manipulate you, or constrict you.

He wants to free you from your sin, your guilt, your shame, your hurts, and everything that is keeping you from becoming who He created you to be.

Let him open up your heart to His love and forgiveness.

Let Him be the Lord of your life because surrendering to him brings life.

Making other things your god and your master will only bring death, unfulfillment, and regret.

You will never regret letting Jesus Christ come into your life and radically changing it.
